Our Lady of Sorrows Elementary School raises over $10,000 for charity in 2011
Our Lady of Sorrows School, a single-stream school where the students and the parents have big hearts, will turn 85 this year.
Every student in the school takes part in the many fundraising events held throughout the year. These events help charities, the less fortunate around the world, and foundations.
In the last calendar year students raised $6,500 for the Holy Childhood Association.
In the "Tale of the Tape" students competed in house teams to bring in food items for the food bank. This year OLS students collected 1,256 food items for the Spanish Missionary food bank.
On fall colour day students raised $345 for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. As an official "We School" the Grade 6 class raised $376 in a class bake sale.
In a school-wide clothing drive, students raised $915 for Mexican Missions. In a fun "Jump Rope for Hearts" event, students collected $3,600 in pledge money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
When the "Right To Play" organization came to OLS, students donated $250 to help kids around the world get play equipment.
Students also take part in collecting for The Children's Variety Telethon, the Poppy Campaign, the Mission Society, Agape Street Ministry, and the GGMS foundation.
The families and students of OLS live their faith through action and service in imitation of Jesus, Who taught His followers to love God and neighbour.
